Statistical map

This is a statistical map of coal production in the Donn Basin in 1921. The number of carts represents the amount of coal produced.

Wind Rose

This is a wind rose that shows both the direction and speed of wind. The color classification is based on the speed of the wind.

Parallel coordinate graph

This parallel coordinate graph shows how different new car models score on various attributes attributes such as price, horsepower, weight, etc.

Population Profile

This population profile shows the distribution of age groups among the total population in the Tasman District during the years 1991, 1996, 2001. Other populations profiles might show other demographic data such as race, ethnicity, or gender.

DLG

This digital line graphic was produced by USGS and is of Georgia. This particular maps shows both natural and built features.

Isopach

This is sonar imagery laid over isopach contours of sediment thickness. The isopach contour lines were derived using seismic interpretations.

Isopleth

This is a isopleth map of Jacksonville Florida showing the extent of toxic releases into the air from area municipal waste incinerators. The isopleth line shows the five year average of toxic chemicals in the air at 100 micrograms per cubic meter.

Isohyets

This is an Isohyets map of Gujarat. The isoyet lines connect points with equal amounts of rainfall for a given time. This map doesn't give the time and I'm guessing the units of the isohyets are in mm. This information would improve the overall usefulness of this map.

Isotach

This isostach uses lines to connect points of with constant wind speeds. The actual wind speed is also written and the color changes to yellow once the speed increases to 10 miles per hour.

DRG

This a Digital Raster Graphic in the Big bend area of Florida. This is scanned topographic data that includes all collar information and can be added as a data layer in maps produced using gis.

Index Value Plot

Demonstrates noise reduction at various signal values over time.

DOQQ

This is a map showing DOQQ coverage of Michigan & Wisconsin. Each blue square represents areas where digital ortho photos have been completed by flying over and taking aerial photos.

Lorenz Curve

This is a Lorenz curve showing the distribution of income. The curve allows you to see the equality of the data by use of the equal distribution line that goes through the center of the map. What is clear from this map is that a small number of the population controls a large majority of the capital.

DEM

This is a DEM of Ikonos in Africa. Remote sensing was used to show topography and elevation.

Nominal area Choropleth Map

This is a map of different land coverage in New Hampshire. The colors have no numeric value and the types of coverage have no hierarchical order.

Unclassified Choropleth

This map shows frequency of lightening strikes per square mile. It is unclassified by any specific range but instead is showed using a continuous color scale that changes with every strike.

Unstandardized Choropleth

This a un-standardized map of Louisiana that represents the percent Cajun population by parish. It is un-standardized because it does not take into account the area of each parish.

Standardized Choropleth

This map shows population distribution of Florida in 2000. The data is standardized by density per square mile.

Bivariate Choropleth

This is a map looking at the quality of health care for various countries. It is technically a multivariate map because it shows data for a particular\ geographical area and is classified by multiple phenomenon at one time. In this case Heath care spending per capita, rank of quality of health care, life expectancy, and infant mortality. http://http://www.moneyweek.com/news-and-charts/economics/healthcare-reform-is-the-nhs-a-socialist-nightmare-44907.aspx

Range Graded Proportional Circle

This a map of showing population distribution of fishing communities. It is a range graded map that has a set number of circles and the size of each is based on the range of population associated with the area.
